The initial Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) was adopted by the two Councils in 2003 to guide land use decisions around the Town of Blackfalds.
The two municipalities met again in the fall of 2006 to jointly amend the current IDP to reflect the significant growth and development in the area since the plan was adopted and recognize the future growth needs of both municipalities.
Much of the land identified in the updated IDP is earmarked for future residential development, but land has also been set aside for industrial/commercial opportunities. These amendments are expected to pave the way for the Town of Blackfalds to make a third annexation application, allowing the Town to meet their growth needs for the next 20 to 30 years. The annexed area is expected to encompass all the lands identified in the long-term growth areas, with the annexation application expected to be presented in 2007.
Lacombe County Council gave third and final reading to the updated bylaw.
