Lacombe County is currently recruiting for a dynamic, innovative, and motivated individual to join our Community Services team as an Environmental Coordinator. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on collaboration and has a vision for driving environmental sustainability.

What will you do? You’ll work closely with all departments and stakeholders to ensure environmental best practices are implemented, helping shape the future of Lacombe County. Reporting to the Manager of Agriculture & Environmental Services, you will spearhead new initiatives, enhance existing programs and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

This position is a combination of office and field work (limited to the Lacombe County area). You will be home every night.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate Lacombe County’s environmental programs, including the Environmental Policy, Environmental Community Engagement Policy, Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Environmental Action Plan (EAP) and natural asset management initiatives.
• Stay up-to-date and ensure full compliance with federal and provincial environmental legislation and policy.
• Present innovative ideas and enhancements to the Senior Administration team, County Council, and staff to promote sustainability.
• Engage with the public, agencies, and organizations leading consultation, education, and communication efforts on key environmental issues.
• Coordinate Lacombe County’s reserve land management program. Duties include performing annual inspections of municipal lands, the maintenance and monitoring of encroachment agreements, and liaising with necessary departments and stakeholders to complete the reclamation of disturbed lands.
• Prepare and review environmental reports for regulatory purposes including but not limited to the Water Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Public Lands Act, Wildlife Act and Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.

Key Qualifications

• The successful candidate must hold a degree or diploma in a related discipline, with related experience in sustainability initiatives.
• Experience in public awareness initiatives, project management and conducting research and feasibility studies is an asset.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint (preferred).
• Excellent communication skills required, including the ability to prepare well written technical and administrative reports and give presentations. Strong listening skills, with the ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
• Exceptional organization skills are required. Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of tasks and consistently meet deadlines. A self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment.

• Able to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with various stakeholders including technical consultants, staff, elected officials, advisory committees and the public.
• Able to attend occasional meetings/events after regular work hours.
• Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's license (required to drive to work sites, attend meetings off site, etc.).
