The Opportunity County Manager Department | Permanent Full-Time Position | Monday - Friday| 8:30am - 4:30pm

Lacombe County is currently recruiting for an experienced and detail-oriented Records Management /FOIP Coordinator to take the lead in developing, implementing and overseeing the County’s Records & Information Management program. Additionally, the role also serves as the County’s FOIP Coordinator, ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.

This pivotal role fosters a culture of transparency, accountability and efficiency across the organization. Your success in this role will be driven by your ability to collaborate effectively with all departments – providing guidance, building strong working relationships and ensuring consistent records management practices.

Key Responsibilities

Records & Information Management (RIM)

• Develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive Records & Information Management program.
• Lead records management initiatives across all departments, offering training and support.
• Establish the policies, standards, guidelines and retention schedule in alignment with municipal polices.
• Oversee both physical and electronic records, including indexing, classification and secure disposal.
• Manage vendor relationships for off-site records storage and shredding services.
• Administer the County’s digital records system, including converting paper records to digital formats.
• Coordinate special projects related to data integrity, imaging, and record storage maintenance.
• Draft policies, procedures and best practices related to records and information management.
• Assist with the standardization of County forms and templates.

Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP)

• Act as the County’s FOIP Coordinator providing training and expert guidance on compliance.
• Process FOIP access requests and maintain accurate records documentation.
• Liaise with provincial FOIP authorities as needed.

Key Qualifications

Technical

• In-depth understanding of records management standards and procedures.
• Good understanding of policy creation, governance documentation and the development of retention schedules, metadata models and classification codes.
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, particularly Office 365, SharePoint, and records management software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff and the public.
• Capable of creating and delivering presentations and training sessions to ensure staff comprehension of records management policies and systems.

• Ability to stay informed about evolving trends in records management, I.T. systems and privacy laws to ensure the County’s processes are current and compliant.

Education & Certification

• Diploma in Information and Records Management, Archival Studies or Library Science or related field.
• 3 + years experience working in records management, preferably within a municipal government environment.
• FOIP certification and/or training recognized by the Association of Records Management Administrators.

The Opportunity Community Services Department |Seasonal (Approx mid-June to mid-October) |Monday - Friday | 7:00am - 5:00pm

Lacombe County is seeking a safety-conscious and dependable individual to join our team as a Mower Operator. The Mower Operator will be responsible for mowing the grass and weeds on municipal road allowances, as well as public and private lands within the County. This role requires the ability to operate mowing equipment effectively and efficiently while adhering to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

The approximate term date for this 4 month position is mid-June to mid-October (weather dependent).

Key Responsibilities 

• Under the direction of the Agricultural Field Operations Lead, operate a mower unit consisting of an all wheel drive tractor with a side arm and a deck mower in compliance with all safety regulations, ensuring the safety of yourself and others.
• Perform safety inspections, routine equipment maintenance and assist with servicing and repairs.
• Maintain accurate records of daily mowing activities, equipment usage, and any incidents.

Key Qualifications

• Able to operate a tractor with a mower and perform light maintenance/servicing as required. Previous mowing experience is an asset.
• Must be able to perform a physically demanding position involving repetitive movement, frequent bending, kneeling, walking on slippery and uneven surfaces, and noise. This position requires sitting for extended periods of time while driving or riding in vehicles, on undulating terrain. Able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50lbs.).
• Must have a proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner. Able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
• Must possess, and be able to maintain, a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

The Opportunity  Community Services Department | Seasonal Full-Time Position (2 month July - August) |Monday - Friday | 8:00am - 4:30pm

Lacombe County has a great summer opportunity for a responsible and motivated individual for the River Weed Inspector position. The successful candidate will canoe the Blindman, Medicine, and Red Deer rivers, handpicking prohibited noxious and noxious weeds along sensitive areas near the riverbanks. While working outdoors in a scenic river environment, this position is integral to environmental management of these river systems within the County. 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a good knowledge and identification of prohibited noxious and noxious weeds.
• Develop strong boat safety and paddling skills (be able to identify potential hazards found on the river).
• Perform weed management by handpicking weeds, collecting them in a bag in the canoe and
  dropping them off at the designated locations.
• Occasionally, operate a backpack sprayer for herbicide application.
• Perform responsibilities in a safe and effective manner. Must be able to follow safe work practices and abide by all safety polices, rules and regulations.

 Key Qualifications

• An enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing personality.
• A valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license (acceptable abstract required upon hire).
• Self-motivated and able to work well with minimum supervision.
• Able to perform physical work involving bending, lifting, and moving of light or heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
• Preference given to candidates with previous flatwater or whitewater canoeing experience.
• Must have proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner.

This is a physically demanding position, with repetitive movement, and requires frequent bending,
kneeling, occasional heavy lifting, and walking on uneven surfaces. The assigned duties include sitting for extended periods of time while paddling a canoe and driving a vehicle. Canoeing is performed on rivers, which may consist of a variety of obstacles including rocks, trees and logs, changing water currents, and variable weather conditions. The employee mainly works in an outdoor environment, subject to heat, cold, dry, dusty and/or wet conditions, as well as insects, livestock and wildlife.

The wage for this position starts at $24.46/hr (includes stat and vacation pay).

Preferred start date is Monday June 2, 2025.   

The Transfer Station Site Operator is responsible for:

• Assisting, directing and educating customers in proper waste disposal methods;

• Assist with unloading waste vehicles into the appropriate waste bins & pin bins for transport;

• Recycling mattresses;

• Maintaining overall cleanliness of the site;

• Conducting visual inspections of loads as needed to prevent disposal of prohibited materials;

• Performing minor preventative maintenance duties (i.e. greasing and oiling equipment);

• Participating in workplace safety initiatives and meetings, and reporting to work fit for duty;

• Performing miscellaneous office duties including answering the phone and light office maintenance.

We’re looking for an individual who:

• Communicates effectively with facility users to ensure proper site use and offers assistance as needed;
• Enjoys working outdoors in various weather conditions and can lift/move objects of up to 80lbs;
• Is adaptable and enjoys performing a variety of tasks (i.e. mowing grass, shoveling snow, assisting customers) and supporting co-workers as needed (i.e. operating skid steer/tractor, changing out bins);
• Is dependable and capable to work with minimal supervision;
