The Opportunity Operations Department | Seasonal Full-Time Position (approx. end of April- November) |Monday - Friday | 7:00am - 5:30pm  (10 hr day)

Lacombe County is seeking a skilled and reliable Fencing Labourer to join our Construction team, responsible for a variety of tasks including driving a tractor and other equipment, removal of all fencing and building obstructions and assisting with new culvert and erosion control installations. This position plays a crucial role in supporting our Construction crew and ensuring the successful completion of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Working with other fencing team members, assist in tearing out existing fences, removing materials and
  preparing the site for new installations. After the construction project is complete, install new fences.
• Operate a tractor to transport materials and pound post holes.
• Utilize impact tools and equipment to secure fencing components and ensure structural integrity.
• Assist in the installation of culverts.

• Participate in workplace safety initiatives, follow safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
  Report to work fit for duty.

Key Qualifications

• Preference given to candidates who have previous fencing experience and/or who have worked as part of a construction crew.
• Safety conscious with a demonstrated high level of attentiveness to your own personal safety as well as that of your co-workers on a construction site around heavy equipment.
• Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and perform strenuous physical labour, including heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs. Enjoy working outdoors and able to perform duties in adverse weather conditions.
• Must have a proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner.
• Possess and able to maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license (current abstract required upon hire).

Lacombe County is currently accepting applications for a Motor Scraper Operator to work with the road construction team in our Operations Department. Under the direction of the Assistant Construction Supervisor, the Motor Scraper Operator will work alongside other crew members, contributing to the overall construction and maintenance of roadways and other projects throughout Lacombe County.

Key Responsibilities 

• Operate a Motor Scraper to scrape, load, dump and spread dirt. Level work areas and haul dirt for roads.
• Read and interpret grade stakes.
• Operate the Motor Scraper in compliance with all safety regulations, ensuring the safety of yourself and
  others.
• Clean the heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
• Perform daily and routine safety and maintenance checks of the equipment before operation, ensuring all
  systems are functioning correctly to maintain optimal performance levels.

Key Qualifications

• Previous Motor Scraper experience in the maintenance or construction of roads is preferred. Must have a good understanding of road construction and maintenance techniques.
• Able to communicate effectively with the Assistant Construction Supervisor regarding any maintenance
  requirements or repair needs. 
• Be able to operate heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner-must be able to follow safe work
  practices and abide by all safety policies, rules, and regulations.
• Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and perform physical labour, including heavy lifting.

The Opportunity Operations Department | Permanent Full-Time Position |Monday-Friday | 7:30am-5:30pm

Lacombe County is seeking a skilled and dedicated Service Hand to join our Operations Department. Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Service Hand will work alongside the Road Mechanic, assisting with mechanical repairs, servicing, and maintaining a variety of equipment, including road construction and farm machinery. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical aptitude who thrives in a hands-on environment and is committed to safety and teamwork. A valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License with a Q endorsement is required. Starting wage: $32.57/hr.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Road Mechanic with equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and performance checks.
• Assist in developing work scopes and schedules for the repair and maintenance of the equipment.
• Perform washing, cleaning, and general upkeep of the equipment as directed.
• Operate the fuel and lube truck as needed to support maintenance operations.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records, including work orders, fuel and oil logs, and oil sample reports.
• Participate in workplace safety initiatives and meetings, ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Report to work fit for duty.

Key Qualifications

• Technical Skills: Knowledge of the maintenance and service requirements of heavy equipment. Experience operating a fuel/lube truck is an asset. Able to demonstrate care and usage of company tools and equipment to assist with Heavy Duty Equipment Technician tasks, while adhering to safe operating procedures.
• Driver’s License: Possess and be able to maintain a valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License with Q endorsement (current abstract required upon hire).
• Communication & Teamwork: Strong ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Proven ability to interact professionally and respectfully with colleagues and supervisors while working collaboratively in a team environment.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to perform heavy lifting of up to 80lbs, and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to climb ladders and into equipment for servicing and fueling.

The Opportunity  Community Services Department | Seasonal Full-Time Position (2 month July - August) |Monday - Friday | 8:00am - 4:30pm

Lacombe County has a great summer opportunity for a responsible and motivated individual for the River Weed Inspector position. The successful candidate will canoe the Blindman, Medicine, and Red Deer rivers, handpicking prohibited noxious and noxious weeds along sensitive areas near the riverbanks. While working outdoors in a scenic river environment, this position is integral to environmental management of these river systems within the County. 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a good knowledge and identification of prohibited noxious and noxious weeds.
• Develop strong boat safety and paddling skills (be able to identify potential hazards found on the river).
• Perform weed management by handpicking weeds, collecting them in a bag in the canoe and
  dropping them off at the designated locations.
• Occasionally, operate a backpack sprayer for herbicide application.
• Perform responsibilities in a safe and effective manner. Must be able to follow safe work practices and abide by all safety polices, rules and regulations.

 Key Qualifications

• An enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing personality.
• A valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license (acceptable abstract required upon hire).
• Self-motivated and able to work well with minimum supervision.
• Able to perform physical work involving bending, lifting, and moving of light or heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
• Preference given to candidates with previous flatwater or whitewater canoeing experience.
• Must have proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner.

This is a physically demanding position, with repetitive movement, and requires frequent bending,
kneeling, occasional heavy lifting, and walking on uneven surfaces. The assigned duties include sitting for extended periods of time while paddling a canoe and driving a vehicle. Canoeing is performed on rivers, which may consist of a variety of obstacles including rocks, trees and logs, changing watercurrents, and variable weather conditions. The employee mainly works in an outdoor environment,subject to heat, cold, dry, dusty and/or wet conditions, as well as insects, livestock and wildlife.
