The Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors signed a Ministerial order on June 14, 2024, creating the Pilot Project (Golf Carts) regulation under the Alberta Traffic Safety Act. As such, the Pilot Project (Golf Carts) Regulation authorizes participating municipalities, like Lacombe County, to pass bylaws that permit registered users to legally operate golf carts on public roads.
How to register your golf cart
STEP 1: Fill out and submit the Online Golf Cart Registration Form |

STEP 2: Complete your payment |
If you are paying online they will need to go to our OptionPay link (below) and follow the details below. You will need to include this receipt with their application package to indicate proof of payment. For OptionPay:

STEP 3: Email Lacombe County with supporting documents |
Email gcpm@lacombecounty.com and include copies of the following:

STEP 4: Pick up your permit and stickers |
Once approved, the permit and validation sticker will be mailed unless the applicant wishes to pick up at the County Office. Mailing may take up to two weeks. |
In order to successfully register your golf cart, your homeowners insurance policy MUST INCLUDE:
- The policy number and policy period (ex. July 25 , 2024, to July 25, 2025)
- minimum comprehensive personal liability coverage of 2,000,000.00,
- golf cart MUST BE clearly defined/listed as covered within the homeowner's insurance policy
