What is an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP)?

An Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) is a provincially required plan designed to foster cooperation between municipalities on planning and development. The result of an IDP is that future development occurs in an integrated and efficient manner. The provincial government requires that all municipalities with shared boundaries complete an IDP.

A public hearing to adopt the Milton Morningside Area Structure Plan will be held on November 8, 2018, at 9:15am. Council gave First Reading to Bylaw 1280/18 on October 11th to adopt the draft Milton Morningside Area Structure Plan (ASP). The draft ASP will replace the existing Milton Morningside ASP which was adopted in 2008. The County held a public meeting in May 2018 to find out if the 2008 plan still reflected the community's vision for growth in the area. Based on the feedback from that meeting, a new land use concept plan was developed which was brought back to the public on September 10, 2018 to review. The community provided overwhelming support for the draft plan and policies. The County is now holding a Public Hearing to ensure that the draft ASP provides for your vision for the development of this area of Lacombe County prior to final adoption of the Bylaw. 

A Public Hearing is scheduled for Thursday, November 8 at 9 am (Lacombe County Council Chambers). Please see the Notice of Public Hearing for further information. The Town of Bentley and Lacombe County have reviewed the Town of Bentley/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan, originally adopted in 2009. This plan will, at a very broad scale, guide future growth for both municipalities and provide a forum for intermunicipal discussion and collaboration as development occurs in and around the urban fringe of the Town of Bentley.

The Village of Alix and Lacombe County are currently reviewing the Intermunicipal Development Plan approved in 2011.  The plan, at a very broad scale, guides future growth for both municipalities and provides a forum for intermunicipal discussion and collaboration as development occurs in and around the urban fringe of the Village of Alix.

A public hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, June 14th at 9:00 a.m. at the Lacombe County Administration Office.

Lacombe County has received an application from Eagle Builders proposing to rezone approximately 149.3 acres within NE 28-39-27-W4M and a portion of NW 28-39-27-W4M, west of Blackfalds from Agricultural "A" District to Business Industrial "I-BI" District.

A Public Hearing will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lacombe County Administration Office.

At the January 25th meeting, Lacombe County Council passed Bylaw No. 1253/17, the purpose of which is to recoup the cost of providing the major municipal infrastructure for water, wastewater and stormwater servicing as well as road infrastructure upgrades to the lands identified.

Bylaw No. 1178/13 has recently been reviewed to include current costs of providing servicing as well as including the twinning of a portion of Aspelund Road. The new offsite levy will be increased to $95,000/ha, including the twinning.

As a landowner in the area of the Aspelund Development Node, the offsite levy is only applicable when your land is developed or used for industrial purposes. Please note, the cost of each individual connection to the water and wastewater trunk lines is not included in the offsite levy and remains the responsibility of each individual landowner or developer.

Lacombe County has appealed the December 8, 2014 decision of the Town of Sylvan Lake Council to approve the Town of Sylvan Lake’s Municipal Development Plan (MDP).  The County has concerns with the MDP not requiring a 30 metre setback from the lake for new developments; furthermore, the MDP fails to include adequate policies concerning the dedication and development of open spaces and does not adequately address access to Sylvan Lake.
