Answer the call: Lacombe County recruiting paid-on-call firefighters

When an emergency happens, every second counts. Across Lacombe County, local firefighters answer the call to help neighbours, protect property, and support their communities during some of life's most challenging moments.

Now, Lacombe County Fire Services is looking for dedicated community members to join our paid-on-call fire departments in Alix, Bentley, Clive, and Eckville.

"Paid-on-call firefighters are local residents serving local residents. The training, teamwork, and sense of purpose make it an incredibly rewarding way to give back to your community. We're especially encouraging those with daytime availability to consider joining our team," said Manager of Fire & Emergency Services, Dave Bain.

Whether it's responding to fires, motor vehicle collisions, medical emergencies, or other incidents, paid-on-call firefighters play a vital role in keeping our communities safe.

More Than a Firefighter

Being a paid-on-call firefighter is about more than emergency response. It's about being part of a team, serving your neighbours, and making a meaningful contribution to the place you call home.

Members receive professional training, ongoing skill development, and the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated group of individuals who share a commitment to helping others.

No previous firefighting experience is required. Lacombe County provides the training and equipment needed to become a successful member of the fire service.

Who Should Apply?

We're looking for community-minded individuals who are willing to learn, work as part of a team, and respond when their community needs them.

We're particularly interested in hearing from people who are available during the daytime, as many emergency calls occur during regular business hours.

You may be an excellent fit if you are:

  • A farmer or rancher
  • Self-employed
  • A local business owner
  • A remote worker
  • A shift worker with daytime availability
  • Retired or semi-retired
  • Employed by an organization that supports community emergency response

A Rewarding Way to Serve

For many members, one of the most rewarding aspects of the role is knowing they are making a difference close to home.

Paid-on-call firefighters build valuable skills, develop lasting friendships, gain leadership experience, and have the unique opportunity to help protect the people and places that matter most to them.
