Enhanced recycling changes at LRWSC recycling sites and the Hamlet of Mirror
Recycling is becoming easier for residents across Lacombe County.
Alberta's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program in now in place, bringing enhancements to recycling services throughout the province. The new system, managed by Circular Materials, is designed to make recycling more convenient, improve recovery rates, and ensure more materials are reused through Alberta's growing circular economy.
Under the EPR framework, the cost of recycling programs is funded by producers, including the companies that supply packaging and paper products to consumers, rather than municipalities and taxpayers.
Easier Recycling at County Depots
Residents who use Lacombe County recycling depots will benefit from a new single-stream recycling system.
Instead of sorting recyclables by material type, residents will be able to place all accepted recyclables in the same bin. Materials will then be sorted at a specialized processing facility. This change will make depot recycling quicker, easier, and more accessible for residents.
The new program also expands the list of accepted recyclable materials, helping residents recycle more items than ever before.
County recycling depots are located at:
- Eckville Transfer Station
- Bentley Transfer Station
- Wolf Creek Recycle Centre (City of Lacombe)
- Alix/Mirror Transfer Station
Residents can visit LRWSC.ca or Circular Materials' website (www.circularmaterials.ca) for a complete list of accepted materials and recycling information.
New Curbside Recycling Service for Mirror Residents
In addition to the changes happening at County recycling depots, residents of the Hamlet of Mirror will see a significant enhancement to their recycling service.
Starting October 13, 2026, households in Mirror that currently receive curbside garbage collection will begin receiving bi-weekly curbside recycling service through Circular Materials. As part of this transition, eligible households will receive a new 360-litre recycling cart that will be used for recycling collection.
Recycling collection will occur every second Tuesday, and residents can use the same single-stream recycling system, placing accepted recyclable materials in one cart.
Residents should note that there will be no changes to regular curbside garbage collection schedules or service levels.
Important Reminder
The new curbside recycling carts and collection service apply only to residents of the Hamlet of Mirror. Other County residents are not affected by this change to curbside service and should continue to use their local recycling depots.
Why Recycle?
Every item recycled helps conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and support the creation of new products and packaging. By participating in Alberta's enhanced recycling system, residents are helping divert more materials from landfills and contributing to a more sustainable future.
