2024 Environmental Stewardship Award now open for nominations!
Over the past three years, Lacombe County has shone a light on remarkable individuals and groups with the Environmental Stewardship Award, celebrating their dedication to ecological conservation on their properties within the county. This award, previously limited to individuals, is now open to community non-government organizations as well.
Nomination Process:
- Open Period: July 15, 2024, to September 30, 2024.
- How to Nominate: Submit nominations in person or via email to jberry@lacombecounty.com. Include the nominee's full contact information and a detailed description of their environmental efforts.
- Eligibility:
- Must be a resident/organization in Lacombe County.
- Recipient can only win once.
- Nominations must be submitted by September 30, 2024.

Award:
- A one-time cash prize of $1,500 will be awarded, recognizing significant contributions to environmental stewardship.
About the Program: The Environmental Stewardship Award is part of Lacombe County's commitment to environmental sustainability. In 2021, the Environmental Community Engagement Program was launched, encompassing educational and sustainability initiatives. This program was extended by the Council in 2023 due to its success.
Past Winners:
- 2023: Ward Nelson - Notable for planting over 2000 trees and implementing solar-powered livestock watering systems.
- 2022: Joan Olafson - Continued stewardship of 80 acres encompassing wetlands, forest, and streams.
- 2021: Sharon and Rick Wiebe - Developed a community garden, off-site watering systems, and other sustainable projects.
