Lacombe County seeks paid-on-call firefighters to support local communities
As the school year begins and with Fire Prevention Week approaching, Lacombe County is putting out a call for new paid-on-call firefighters to bolster its fire departments. The need is especially pressing in the communities of Alix, Eckville, Bentley, and Clive, where daytime coverage is essential.
Dave Bain, the Manager of Fire and Emergency Services for Lacombe County, emphasizes the importance of local involvement, noting that having a strong, community-based fire service is crucial to maintaining safety and rapid response times.

Lacombe County’s fire services rely on individuals who can respond quickly to emergencies and to increase the number of trained members to meet the growing demands of the community. The County is particularly interested in recruiting people who are available during the day when many current members are unavailable due to work commitments outside their communities.

Requirements to become a paid-on-call firefighter include:

Being 18 years of age or older
-
Holding a valid class 5 driver’s license

Maintaining physical fitness
-
Living or working within the response areas in/around Alix, Eckville, Bentley, or Clive
In addition to these requirements, paid-on-call firefighters are expected to attend at least 50% of the scheduled training sessions and be available to respond to 25% of the emergency calls.
