Sandy Point Beach is now more accessible: Introducing the Mobi-mat and beach accessible wheelchair!
Lacombe County is ready to officially launch our new Mobi-mat and beach accessible wheelchair (MobiChair) at Sandy Point Beach! These new amenities -derived from a County staff innovation initiative - will ensure the beach is accessible for everyone, whether they have a mobility impairment or simply find it challenging to navigate the sandy terrain. The Mobi-mat and MobiChair are here to help users fully enjoy the beach experience.
The Mobi-mat, located next to the washrooms at Sandy Point Beach, can be used by anyone with wheels, such as walkers, strollers, wheelchairs, etc. The mat allows for much easier access through the sand to the water.
The MobiChair is not limited to individuals who use wheelchairs. It is also available for those who cannot swim, have motor disabilities, or need assistance navigating the beach. The MobiChair is available for use at no cost (full details are below).

On-Site Registration: Users will fill out rental forms and waivers with on-site personnel at Sandy Point Beach.

Location: The MobiChair will be stored outside the shed during the day for public visibility and will be secured with a lock. Access is granted only through staff. It will be stored in the garage overnight.

Rental Duration Options: Users can rent the MobiChair for 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours (half-day) or 6 hours (full day)

Personal Information Required: To rent the MobiChair, users or their support persons must provide personal information, including their name, phone number, address, city, postal code, driver's license, and license plate number.

Safety Guidelines: Users must follow all safety instructions provided by the staff. The MobiChair should be used under the supervision of a responsible adult if the user is a minor or requires assistance.
At this time, we are not offering advance reservations for the MobiChair.
Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis. We will assess the demand and consider online reservations for future seasons if needed.
As we are introducing this new facility later for 2024, and expect a manageable demand, we will be using paper forms for rentals and waivers this year. If demand increases, we will consider developing an online form for future seasons.
