The Opportunity Community Services Department | Permanent Full-Time Position | Rotational shift schedule-4 days/week-10 hrs/day

Lacombe County is seeking an experienced, full-time Community Peace Officer (CPO) to join our team. This full-time position serves on a rotational basis as the School Resource Officer (SRO), providing awareness and information on current and trending issues within designated Lacombe County schools.

When not assigned to SRO duties, the CPO is responsible for the full scope of Community Peace Officer functions, including the day-to-day enforcement and administration of County bylaws and applicable provincial statutes. The role places strong emphasis on public safety, traffic enforcement, infrastructure protection, and community education.

We’re looking for a community-minded professional who brings sound judgment, strong conflict-diffusion skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with residents, partners and stakeholders. This position works four 10-hour shifts each week, including weekend rotations from May through September.

Key Responsibilities

School Resource Officer (Rotational Appointment)
• Work with other SROs, school administration, students, and staff to establish positive relationships and promote a safe and caring environment.
• Assist students in making informed choices through awareness, education and positive role modelling.
• Provide current and relevant presentations, information and resources on important topics, emerging trends and social issues.
• Provide one-on-one mentoring visits with students and refer to outside social services when necessary.
• Participate in and support school events as requested/required, including conducting informal school visits.
• Assist school staff with issues or concerns involving students.

Community Peace Officer
• Independently conduct mobile patrols throughout Lacombe County to proactively prevent and detect statute infractions, issuing violation tickets and laying charges in accordance with authorized legislation.
• Perform investigations into complaints and incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and follow-up.
• Apply advanced knowledge of the Traffic Safety Act by conducting traffic stops and issuing warnings, violation tags and provincial tickets.
• Carry out commercial vehicle inspections with a high level of competency , ensuring compliance with weight and dimension regulations through permits, roadside checks, and the use of weigh scales.
• Liaise with and provide support to other County departments, community groups and associations on enforcement related matters.
• Provide skilled, professional, and approachable public education related to municipal bylaws and community safety.

Key Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in a law enforcement related field, or a Grade 12 diploma supplemented with a minimum of 3 years of related experience as a Level 1 CPO. Demonstrated traffic enforcement experience is required. CVSA inspection certification and prior experience delivering community and/or school based programs are strong assets.
• Must meet all Justice and Solicitor General Peace Officer appointment requirements, including successful completion of an approved physical abilities test (i.e. PARE). An acceptable Criminal Record Check that includes a Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
• Valid and current First Aid/CPR certifications. Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license. Current Radar/Laser certification and EVOC training are assets. Must have completed, or be willing to complete, the Motor Transport Weights & Measures course.

The Opportunity Community Services Department | Permanent Full-Time Position | Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hrs/week) + meetings and events outside of regular business hours

Lacombe County is seeking an experienced and community-minded Deputy County Fire Chief to play a key leadership role within our Community Services department. This position provides operational, technical, and administrative support to the Manager of Fire & Emergency Services and to the various District Fire Departments across Lacombe County.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Administration
• Provide direction, guidance and administrative support to the District Fire Chiefs in their department’s operations.
• Assist with the coordination and the oversight of fire suppression, incident command, inspections, training, public safety, and prevention programs.
• Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of fire-related policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Guidelines.
• Act in a relief capacity for the Manager of Fire & Emergency Services as required.

Regulatory Compliance & Equipment Coordination
• Administer annual regulatory requirements for the District Fire Departments including CVIPs, PPE testing, hose and ladder testing, SCBA inspections, and more.
• Maintain detailed records to ensure compliance with standards and legislation.

Emergency Response
• Provide support for District Fire Department emergency response activities. Attend emergency scenes and assume appropriate roles, including Incident Command, when required.
• Assist with fire investigations.
• Act in the capacity of Safety Codes Officer (Fire Discipline).

Training & Development
• Coordinate and evaluate training programs for District Fire Department members.
• Maintain certification records and support recruitment and onboarding.
• Participate in and support District Fire Department training activities, including skill development, exercises, and evaluations.

Fire Prevention & Public Safety
• Review and approve fire and fireworks permits.
• Monitor weather, operational, and environmental conditions and support fire ban/restriction decisions.
• Participate in and provide support for public education initiatives and fire prevention/fire protection initiatives.

Emergency Management
• Serve as Deputy Director of Emergency Management.
• Assist in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the County’s Emergency Management Plan.
• Support training, exercises, public education, and emergency coordination.

Key Qualifications

• Ability to work collaboratively with District Fire Chiefs, District Fire Department Members, municipal staff, and external partners. Demonstrated ability to provide guidance, coordination, and leadership.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience in fire management software is an asset.
• Highly developed organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong attention to detail in maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Working knowledge of applicable legislation, codes, standards, and best practices related to fire services, emergency management, occupational health and safety, and public safety.
• Strong understanding of fire suppression operations, fire prevention, inspection practices, and firefighter training programs, incident command systems and emergency response roles.
• Post-secondary education in Fire Services Administration, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or related field. Additional certifications including, NFPA 1001 Level 2, NFPA 1041 Level 1, NFPA 1021 Level 2, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, ICS 300, First Aid & CPR, Safety Codes Officer (Fire Discipline) certification, or willingness to obtain, and Emergency Management certification, or ability to obtain.
• Minimum 8 years (preferred) progressive fire service experience.
• This position is required to attend some emergencies located throughout the County. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to relocate within (or near) the area of Lacombe County.

• Demonstrated knowledge of economic development, marketing, land development and business sustainability. Knowledge in various industry sectors is an asset.

• Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse internal and external parties in an open and ethical environment.

• Ability to maintain active membership in the Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) organization.

• Demonstrated excellent communication skills with the ability to make compelling presentations.

• Proven competency with Microsoft applications, desktop publishing, social media and website design. Must have a good understanding of various marketing tools available to develop and promote marketing campaigns for business development.

•An Alberta Class 5 driver's license is required.

Lacombe Regional Waste Services Commission Opportunities

The Opportunity 

Lacombe Regional Waste Services Commission has a Permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) opportunity for a Transfer Station Operator to join our team at the Prentiss Transfer Site, working Thursday to Saturday from 9am- 5pm. Preferred start date is Monday, April 6, 2026 working Monday to Friday to train for 2 weeks, then begin the Thursday to Saturday shift starting April 23, 2026.

The Transfer Station Site Operator is responsible for:

- Assisting, directing and educating customers in proper waste disposal methods;
- Assisting with unloading waste vehicles into the appropriate waste bins & pin bins for transport;
- Recycling mattresses;
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the site;
- Conducting visual inspections of loads as needed to prevent disposal of prohibited materials;
- Performing minor preventative maintenance duties, such as greasing and oiling;
- Participating in workplace safety initiatives and meetings, and reporting to work fit for duty;
- Perform a variety of miscellaneous office duties including answering the phone.

We’re looking for an individual:
- Who has the ability to communicate effectively with facility users to assure proper usage and provide assistance as required;
- Who enjoys working outdoors in various weather conditions and is able to perform medium lifting and moving of objects of up to 80lbs;
- Enjoys performing a variety of tasks (mowing grass, shoveling snow, assisting customers) and helping out co-workers when required (operating skid steer/tractor, changing out bins, etc.)
- Who is dependable and is able to work with minimal supervision;
- Who has a minimum of a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License. Equipment operation experience is preferred.

A mechanical aptitude is an asset in this position. This position may also be dispatched to other transfer sites within Lacombe County to provide necessary coverage when required.
