The Town of Eckville/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan was adopted in 2008 and guides future growth for both municipalities at a broad scale, and encourages collaboration between the municipalities for developments occurring around the urban fringe of the Town of Eckville.

The Town of Eckville/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan applies to County land surrounding the Town of Eckville as highlighted in red below, and does not include any lands within the current boundary of the Town of Eckville.

The Plan was last updated in 2018, and is scheduled for review to ensure the plan still reflects the current context of the area. The amendments that have been made to the document are clerical updates to maintain the Plan’s accuracy, and the overall intent of the Plan has not changed.

Policy Updates

  • Growth Management Policy 2.2 - Removed the phrase “in accordance with County Policy,”  as the implementation of cost-sharing arrangements is a consideration of both municipalities
  • Intermunicipal Development Plan Committee Policy 8.1.4 – Revised the policy to meeting “on an as-needed” basis as opposed to meeting “annually”

Enabling Legislation

The Plan has been updated to include the term “roundabout” instead of “intersection” or “interchange” (Policies 5.3.2 and 6.4)

Name Changes

  • Department name of “Alberta Transportation” has been updated to “Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors” (Policies 5.2.5, 5.3.4, 6.0 C, 6.1 and 7.3)
  • Department name of “Alberta Environment and Parks” has been updated to “Alberta Environment and Protected Areas” (Policy 7.5)
  • References to the “Municipal Government Board” have been replaced with references to the “Land & Property Rights Tribunal” (Policies 8.3.5 C and 8.4.5)
