The Town of Eckville/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan was adopted in 2008 and guides future growth for both municipalities at a broad scale, and encourages collaboration between the municipalities for developments occurring around the urban fringe of the Town of Eckville.

The Town of Eckville and Lacombe County are updating the Town of Eckville/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan and want to hear from you through the survey!
When adopting plans, the Town and County commit to open, transparent, and collaborative decision-making. As such, your feedback is critical to this Plan update.
This survey is a follow up to the Public Meeting held on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Eckville Legion. The survey will remain open until midnight on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026.
We encourage all residents, landowners, and businesses in and around the Town of Eckville to take the survey to provide your thoughts on the Plan update.

What is the purpose of the Town of Eckville/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan?
The Town of Eckville/Lacombe County Intermunicipal Development Plan applies to County land surrounding the Town of Eckville as highlighted in red below, and does not include any lands within the current boundary of the Town of Eckville.

Why is the Plan being updated?
The Plan was last updated in 2018, and is scheduled for review to ensure the plan still reflects the current context of the area. The amendments that have been made to the document are clerical updates to maintain the Plan’s accuracy, and the overall intent of the Plan has not changed.
What are the proposed revisions to the Plan?
Policy Updates
- Growth Management Policy 2.2 - Removed the phrase “in accordance with County Policy,” as the implementation of cost-sharing arrangements is a consideration of both municipalities
- Intermunicipal Development Plan Committee Policy 8.1.4 – Revised the policy to meeting “on an as-needed” basis as opposed to meeting “annually”
Enabling Legislation
- Revised the Enabling Legislation section of the Plan to reflect updates made to Section 631 of the Municipal Government Act (Policy 1.2)
Highway 11 and Highway 766 Intersection
- Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors has confirmed the future development of a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 766, as part of the Highway 11 twinning project. The Plan has been updated to include the term “roundabout” instead of “intersection” or “interchange” (Policies 5.3.2 and 6.4)
Name Changes
- Department name of “Alberta Transportation” has been updated to “Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors” (Policies 5.2.5, 5.3.4, 6.0 C, 6.1 and 7.3)
- Department name of “Alberta Environment and Parks” has been updated to “Alberta Environment and Protected Areas” (Policy 7.5)
- References to the “Municipal Government Board” have been replaced with references to the “Land & Property Rights Tribunal” (Policies 8.3.5 C and 8.4.5)
