Emergency Management

Lacombe County maintains an emergency management plan for large-scale disasters, which focuses on strategies for mitigating, responding and recovering from emergency events.

Emergency management also means training for emergency responders, providing public awareness programs, acting as a liaison with other emergency management agencies, and developing practical emergency response plans.

Do you have a business or a service that could be utilized during a large emergency? Join EML CANADA to get on Lacombe County’s resource list.

Along with municipal emergency management responsibilities, the County is part of the following Emergency Management partnerships:

The Lacombe County Regional Emergency Partnership includes the Towns of Bentley, Blackfalds, Eckville, and Lacombe, as well as the Villages of Alix and Clive and the Summer Villages of Gull Lake, Half Moon Bay, Sunbreaker Cove, Birchcliff, Jarvis Bay and Norglenwold.

LREMP was established in 2011 with the development of a regional emergency management plan. The plan was produced and distributed through the combined efforts of the member municipalities of the Lacombe Regional Emergency Management Partnership. In the case of an emergency, the plan is to be cited as the official municipal emergency plan of the member municipalities.

The LREMP plan is one element of a regional emergency management program, which:

  • establishes a continuous improvement process to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate emergency management in the region.
  • addresses the functions of prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

In Lacombe County, industry and municipal partners have long understood the concept of being stronger together. In 1998, the Lacombe County Mutual Aid Organization (LCMAO) was established to facilitate a coordinated emergency response between the various emergency response departments in the region.

LCMAO Members
Combining industry and municipal representatives, LCMAO includes:

  • Municipal: Lacombe County, City of Lacombe, Town of Blackfalds
  • Industry: Alta Gas, Dow Chemical Canada ULC, INEOS, Linde Canada Inc., MEGlobal, Nova Chemicals Ltd., Nutrien, Pembina Pipeline Corporation, Procor

Together, they train, plan and share best practices for emergency response. In the event of a large-scale emergency, the partners would join forces for a regional response.
