Rural Crime Prevention

Rural crime is a concern throughout Alberta, including in Lacombe County. Below is information on crime prevention and programs to help keep our rural communities safe.

WHAT IS RAVE?
RAVE is a web based communication platform that RCMP officers are mandated to fan out real time alerts to community members in Alberta. Alerts are operational and educational in nature. They might look like BOLOs (Be On the Look Out), Crime Prevention, Victim Services, and District reports. Alerts are sent via email, text message or phone call – preference is on the account user.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
This communication can strengthen partnerships between volunteers associations and police. Community members can assist police and be a useful resource to their local detachment and their respective community. RAVE will also be a useful educational tool for Crime Prevention and Victim Services information. Information is trusted and received in real time.

The Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association wants to help reduce crime in rural areas and to create a more thorough understanding and awareness of crime prevention and best safety practices. They provide opportunities and resources for citizens to take action in protecting what's most important to them. Together with local RCMP detachments and community organizations, they create a strong awareness, expand law presence, and help reduce crime.

Lacombe County Community Peace Officers work closely with rural crime watch groups operating within the County boundaries.

The new Crime Map, which is a “K” Division Crime Reduction Strategy, is a targeted, evidence-based approach to informing residents about 5 crime types:

  • Break and Enters
  • Stolen Vehicles
  • Missing Persons
  • Theft from Motor Vehicles and
  • Mischief

These crime types have been chosen for the map because they are opportunities where people can help reduce crime by practicing crime prevention strategies, or by reporting suspicious activity that may help the RCMP make arrests.

If you have information about a crime, please submit it online through the Central Alberta Crime Stoppers website, or by calling 1-800-222-8477, or contact your local police detachment:
