Currently, the fire risk in Lacombe County is MODERATE, and a Fire Advisory is in effect for Lacombe County.

  • Minor burn permits (< 500 ft³) are still available.
  • Large‑scale burn permits will not be issued until conditions improve.
  • The advisory may escalate to a Fire Restriction or Fire Ban without notice.

The Lacombe County Fire Service is a paid-on-call service proud to make Lacombe County a safer place for those who live, work and visit here.

Lacombe County Fire Service provides emergency services to Lacombe County, in cooperation with our municipal partners, with one career Fire Chief, four paid-on-call District Chiefs, and up to 90 paid-on-call fire members in departments based in Alix, Bentley, Clive, and Eckville.

In addition to this, fire protection is provided through agreements with the City of Lacombe and the towns of Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, and Bashaw.

Lacombe County Fire Service is governed through the Lacombe County Fire Bylaw and the Lacombe County F(1) Policy, both of which discuss the rules for Fire Permits, Fire Pits, Fireworks Permits and potential charges for fire fighting services.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Canadian Class 5 Drivers License (minimum)
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Physically able to perform tasks/duties of the job
  • Commitment to training, generally one evening a week
  • Live and/or work in the response area
  • Ability and willingness to respond to emergency incidents on a regular basis and at various times of day
  • No conviction of a criminal offence related to the job duties of a firefighter

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to respond to emergency situations
  • Respond to calls day and night under stressful and often emotional conditions
  • Perform the duties of emergency responder, fire suppression, and public education as assigned
  • Face new challenges with courage and dedication
  • Willingly learn new skills
  • Be a community role model
  • Maintain fire station and the upkeep of firefighting equipment
  • Develop a strong sense of accomplishment and passion for responsibilities within the community

Fire Prevention involves the prevention of fire related property loss and injury through public education, inspection, and enforcement of the Fire Code and investigation of fire incidents. The Lacombe County Fire Service is committed to ensuring the safety of the public as their primary focus, by reducing the potential risk of fire.
