Get updates during an emergency

You can sign up to get updates during an emergency at Alberta Emergency Alerts that you can easily access from your mobile phone, tablet or any other device, and on multiple social channels.

Know the risks

Whether your area is prone to wildfires, floods, severe storms or tornadoes, know the types of hazards that can trigger emergencies. Other emergencies could include bomb threats, chemical releases, pandemic influenza, and power outages.

Make an emergency plan

It is important that you and your family make an emergency plan to prepare for disasters. Follow the emergency preparedness guide checklist and keep your plans current to help save you time and make real emergency situations less stressful. This can include:

  • Evacuation plan
  • Floor plan with possible exits
  • Identified meeting places
  • Emergency contact information
  • Accommodation plans
  • Insurance information
  • Fire extinguisher and water valve locations.

Create an emergency kit

In an emergency, you will need basic supplies to keep you safe and well for approximately 72 hours. Create an emergency kit before an emergency happens so you have the necessary things easily at hand, including food, water and battery operated flashlights.
