From pit to park
Lacombe County wants your thoughts on the future of the Abma gravel pit
The Abma family donated the property - a gravel pit located near the intersection of Township Road 410 and Range Road 275 - to Lacombe County in 2012. One of the Abma’s conditions of the donation agreement was that the land would be used for recreational purposes for the benefit of the general public once gravel extraction activities were completed.
With aggregate extraction nearing completion, Lacombe County has hired a professional planning and design consultant to create a vision for reclaiming the site and transforming it into a new public recreational area for the community and we want YOUR input.
Survey
Following the Abma Pit public meeting on July 15, 2025, the public was invited to complete a survey to share feedback and their vision for the reclaimed site. Results will be shared in fall 2025.
Thank you for your input!
Proposed Concept Plans
There were three (3) different concept plans for people to look at and comment on. Click on each image to see a larger view. Council will be reviewing the survey results and see the preferred concept plan in September 2025.
