Many communities in Alberta are facing drought conditions, particularly in the southern part of the province. After several dry years, Alberta’s mountain snowpack continues to trend below average, river flow data is seeing record lows, and reservoir levels are well below normal for this time of year. These conditions are all contributing factors to what is likely to be a severe drought year for Alberta.
On May 9, 2024, County Council adopted Lacombe County’s first Drought Management Plan. The Drought Management Plan represents a proactive initiative, and demonstrates the County’s commitment to using water resources responsibly and empowering our community with appropriate resources and knowledge to be resilient in drought.
All Albertans are asked to consider ways to use water wisely. Conserving water is always a good habit, and it can help your community and Albertans downstream from you.
