Tax Calculation
To calculate your taxes, you need to multiply your assessment value by the Tax Rate for your class of property in the region.
FOR EXAMPLE: If you have a residential property your calculation would be calculated as follows:
Assessed Value = $400,000
Tax Rate = Municipal Residential + Education + Seniors + Police
Tax Rate = 2.595 + 2.540 + 0.0595 + 0.1175
Tax Rate = 5.3120
Assessment X Tax Rate = Taxes
400,000 x 5.3120/1000 = $2,124.80
A Tax Rate is per thousand dollars of assessment. For example: For each $1,000 of assessed value, taxes would be $5.31.
In this example the General Municipal tax is $1,038.00 or 48.8% of the total tax levy of $2,124.80.
Lacombe County is required to collect the education tax on behalf of the Government of Alberta. The provincial government establishes the Education Tax Rate to determine the total requisition amount. The province sets the requisition amount, and the County sets the Tax Rate in order to collect the total requisitions amount.
Certain property owners can elect to have their taxes go towards Separate Schools, instead of public schools. If that is selected, their school taxes are paid to Red Deer Catholic School Division or St Thomas Aquinas School Division. Learn more on the Government of Alberta's Education Property Tax page.
Police Levy
In 2020, the Government of Alberta decided to charge all municipalities for policing costs. This cost has been applied as a separate levy on all taxable properties in the County and is shown as a separate Police Levy on your tax notice.
Seniors Requisition
Lacombe County is a member municipality of the Lacombe Foundation. Lacombe Foundation requisitions amounts from Lacombe County and all urbans within the Lacombe County boundary to support, in part, senior lodge facilities in the County. A separate levy on all taxable properties is levied and shown as Lac Foundation on your tax notice.
